myAnimeDB ver. 1.0

I made a tool for the anime fans, which includes myself. This little MS-Access file is like a journal that can record anime information as well as various ratings. There is spaces for "episode comment", "episode summary", "episode ratings", "series ratings", "series comment", and "series references". To make more use of ratings, I actually have two types of overall ratings for every anime. One is the user-defined rating, and the other is the average rating (for graphic, music, plot, character design/development) calculated from every episode.

There are other features in this access file as well. You are more than welcome to try it out.

During the making, I accidentally created a blank module. After deleting it Access start to show a security warning dialog. If anyone know how to solve this problem (I have no idea who to use digital signature..) I'd be grateful to hear it.

The file is here:

Review on Honey & Clover (Hachimitsu to Clover)

Before I went on the net to confirm my feeling, I already know that this is the best anime I have watched for a while (means 3 years). Everything is good. It gives me a pleasant feeling after watching it. The overall presentation is fun, artistic, and reflective.

I am going to try to tell the story without giving spoilers (hmm…is it possible?). Basically this story is about a group of friends in an art college in Tokyo. The narration is omniscient, but a lot of time only Takemoto Yuuta’s thought is expressed. The span of time recorded in this anime is around 4 years, from when Takemoto was second year to the fifth year. These friends have fun together and create quite some laughable memories. A medium-complex romance plot is also present between the characters. The important decisions discussed throughout the anime are about pursuing a dream, expression idea to others, and the way to act like an idiot (Morita, that’s you). It has a happy ending. I love it. I haven’t finished manga, but from the anime I think I won’t miss much from the stuff in the manga.

From Random Curiosity’s 2005 anime awards you can see that Honey & Clover won the best anime character (Shinobu Morita), the best comedy, and the overall best anime of the year. From Anime-reactor.net it has won the best drama, best character development, and the best romance titles in 2005. Of course it also won awards from other websites, but to summarize all these awards you can say that Honey & Clover is good at character development and plot.

It is the plots that makes us more attached to the characters. It is the characters that give us an impression of this anime.
In the entire 24 episodes, the fun never stops. Ok, maybe the last few episodes when Takemoto Yuuta went for a “self-realization trip.” I really treasure the parts when these college friends are “together” and doing something stupid. The character development really contributes to bring out the flavor of life. Each person in the group is able to influence the group with his/her personalities. Because the author has managed to show the personalities of each person in a very detailed way, the interactions between them is not the boring one-plus-one. It’s more like vector algebra, heh.

This anime is artistic. You can see it even from the opening theme. How did someone come up with an idea of showing food on a rotating plate in the opening song of an animation? I’m not exactly sure what’s the significance of that presentation is (although one of these plate-arts resembles Hagumi Hanamoto, a talented young art student.). I also like the Ferris wheel portrayed in the anime. It is so beautiful. Besides that, you can see occasionally in the anime different type of arts are used to draw the characters in special situations, especially when they are self-reflecting.

I am taking too much space again, but I just want to finish my last point. Being a college student, I really like to read a story of a bunch of college students. Maybe it’s too late? Man, I wish this anime had come out when I was first year :P. Anyways, watching this anime does bring back some memories.

Shane's UBC Weblog

http://weblogs.elearning.ubc.ca/shanesyw/

My UBC Weblog :) But seriously do I need that!? I'm not that sure anymore, since I'm not very active academically! What's the point for my to have account to own this piece of data space on UBC elearning server? Hmm...good question...good question indeed...

oh yeah...finally understand that~

I need to study in a environment that's lively. This means that I need to study in a place that's with noises.... but not too noisy

This is interesting. People want to have a sense of life when they are studying. That means they feel dead with the thing they are studying, right?

Or....is it just a mean of distraction so that they can have some mental junkfood while they are studying?

well, ok, i'm just talking about myself.
